About Us.....
Before we "went to the birds", we made custom furniture, functional garden sculpture and whimsicals such as bird houses and feeders. We still do, but most of those pieces are now going to interior decorators and specialty shops. We "shop" for the wood that we use in our own backyard. Here in Shasta County Manzanita grows in abundance . In the area of the valley that we live it is not uncommon to have weeks and months of Summer temperatures near the 120 degree mark, and Winters with bitter cold and frost. This makes the Manzanita wood extremely characteristic, very gnarled, distressed and simply fascinating in its patterns, shape and texture. We choose trees that have a great deal of personality, and use the various branching structures to create our unique works.
We process all the wood by hand, so as to not damage the intrinsic pattern of the wood, or create a porous environment in the surface where insects or pests could exist. We seal the wood with bees wax so that it is more durable, and very easy to wash and keep sanitized.
We are certified by the Audubon Society and have received several awards for our designs and products. |
